Ep. 80: Stretching for Hope

Hey FRs,

I can't help but feel a little like this woman when I'm trying to find things to be hopeful about...

That's why I love listening to people smarter than me who have somehow maintained their hold on it.

If you haven't yet listened to our interview with human rights lawyer and activist Gissou Nia, please do. She's somehow painfully up-to-date on everything happening on the ground in Iran and still hopeful we might land in a better place. And I'm not talking about a grasping, clinging-to-the-last-shred hope.

But a hope that's grounded in a broader view of history and a proven belief in the will of the people (eventually) breaking through. Take a listen and see if it doesn't lift your sails at least a little.

Last week on TFR we talked about how President Trump said the federal government can't afford paying for things like "daycare" because we need to spend our tax dollars on the military and excursions in Iran. However, cutting funding for safety programs across the board (as Trump and the GOP did with their "One Big Beautiful Bill" last summer) has repercussions beyond just daycare –– programs that provide food for hungry children over the summer when they're not in school are about to get hard as well, especially in rural areas in Ohio and around the country
