Ep. 76: Khaaaarg Island, Ahoy!

Hey FRs,

It's a complicated time to write this, but Nowruz Mobarak, or Happy Persian New Year. To those in Iran or the diaspora, I hope you find time and space to gather and draw strength from each other. Be-salāmat.

Our show this week focused on the strategic and historical importance of Kharg Island, the tiny island where more than 90% of Iran's oil is loaded onto tankers. It's been in the news an awful lot lately, and we guessed y'all might need a primer (I sure did).

We also talked Kenyans fighting in Ukraine, the US spreading its war juice on Ecuador, and how some leaders in the EU have shown the slightest bit of guts lately in responding to Trump's asks. I mean, even if it's mostly bluster, any amount of guts is welcome at this point.

And we couldn't end without our our obligatory tour of JD inanity and hypocrisy. Needless to say, it abounds these days.....

Afroman wins in lawsuit from Ohio deputies over music videos: ‘We did it America … freedom of speech!’
The “Because I Got High” rapper was sued after he used images of law enforcement raiding his home in music videos, including the viral “Lemon Pound Cake.”

In a world that could always use more good news, here's some out of Ohio –– Afroman has won in court against an Ohio county's sheriff department after they raided his home on a bogus tip and stole some of his money! Afroman took the security footage from his house's own system and used it to make hit songs and music videos, which then prompted the sheriff's department to sue him for using their likenesses from the footage –– but in a victory for free speech, Afroman prevailed in the case and now sheriff's departments everywhere will be on notice to not violate people's property rights!
