Ep. 57: JD's a Creep

Hey FRs -

For the first time ever, we led last week's show with some good news. The Dems, who badly needed a win, swept all the big election night races, with Democrats winning the governorship in NJ and Virginia, California succeeding with their attempt to re-re-rig district voting maps, and NYC voting in Zohran Mamdani, an extremely engaging and hope-inducing Muslim socialist. We thought it couldn't get better but then we got word that Dick Cheney– WMD fabricator & torture defender, died. If you think it's crass to celebrate a death, you're probably right, but just listen to the pod and our breakdown of Cheney's contributions to the world. There may be an exception.

In any case, the good news was short-lived, both on the show and in the world. The rest of the show covered the horrors of the Sudanese civil war, which reached new levels of nightmare with the fall of El Fasher, and the latest exploits of JD Vance, who, like a bad tooth, continues to decay and make himself a distraction. Off the pod, the Dems decided to kill their momentum and cave to the Republicans, voting to end the shutdown without any guaranteed extension of healthcare subsidies. Maybe they've gotten so used to losing they just reflexively toss off any advantage like a hot potato. Whatever their issue, it sucks.

But, basically, good news, bad news we got it all! Give it a listen if you haven't already.

Seena's Corner

Seena is on vacation this week. We're hoping he is keeping one shirt button too many undone and not reading the news.

Meanwhile in Ohio: What Travis is Reading ––

Every week during the "JD Vance Corner" on TFR, we talk about how JD's profile in MAGA world is waning because his rise to Republican prominence largely revolved around his book "Hillbilly Elegy" –– now everyone from Gov. Andy Beshear to Nick Fuentes are realizing that the book was mostly based on JD's self-serving propaganda and they are calling him out! Thankfully, another Ohio-born author named Beth Macy (her book "Dope Sick" was a national bestseller) has released "Paper Girl" as a counter to JD's book, which actually takes an analytical journalistic look at how small towns in Ohio and around the country have been decimated economically and emotionally, with the loss of local newspapers playing a large roll in the misinformation (and disinformation) dividing rural America.

Next Week...

With FP Zaddy out, we challenged Amber Nelson and Ed Larsen from LPN's The Brighter Side to join and help us find the silver linings in all the crap news. Should be a fun one!
