Ep. 104: Nihilism Run Amok

Hey FRs,

A real uplifting week out here, what with Trump's casual dismissal of human life and Netanyahu's blatant disregard for it. The only thing to do really is tune into FP Zaddy and T-Ceps for some perspective and a few laughs.

It's the simple things getting us through these days ...

How many countries warned Netanyahu before October 7th?

At least three, for fuck's sake. Haaretz's follow-up reporting shows Egypt's intelligence chief personally flew to Tel Aviv in September 2023 and sat on the tarmac for over an hour warning Israeli officials that "Gaza is going to blow up in your face." Egypt warned Netanyahu again by phone 48 hours before the attack, and Jordan's intelligence chief also sent a separate warning. Even closer to home, Netanyahu's own Shin Bet had intelligence from a Palestinian Authority official dating to mid-September.

None of it moved him, and he's now flown secretly to Abu Dhabi asking the UAE president to deny the warning call ever happened. Can I overuse for fuck's sake?

What did Trump actually say to Tucker Carlson about the Iran war?

According to Tucker Carlson's own account, he told Trump directly in the Oval Office that the Iran war served Israeli regional hegemony, not American interests, and that it would also push US bases out of the Middle East. Trump's reported response: "Yes, you're right. But in the end, we all die anyway."

When Carlson pressed him on future generations, Trump reportedly had no answer. Remember, this man is a father. Obviously not a good one, but still.

Why is the Pope weighing in on France's new assisted dying law?

Pope Leo used a hospice visit in Lourdes this week to warn that France's new law allowing adults with incurable, life-threatening conditions to request assisted death falls victim to "the temptation to cause death under the guise of false compassion." He added a line aimed squarely at lawmakers: "what is legal is not necessarily moral." The UK's House of Commons only narrowly rejected a similar bill this month, 286 to 270. This is a live legislative fight across Europe, not a settled debate, and the margins keep getting thinner.

Is JD Vance now attacking a Democrat for being too Christian?

Yep. 😑 In Kansas's Senate race, Vance accused pastor and Democratic candidate Adam Hamilton of wearing "the skin suit" of Christianity (so gross), despite Hamilton leading a 24,000-member congregation that is one-third Republican and serves 45,000 meals a year in Kansas City. There is no bottom for this man.

Vance previously attacked a Muslim candidate as a terrorist sympathizer; now he's going after a Christian pastor's faith. It reads less like strategy and more like a party running out of material six weeks before the midterm.

Need some laughs? I sure do....
